Apple has proudly opened its new headquarters in Cupertino, California. The panels on the top floor are in black. The noteworthy fact is that the coatings was manufactured and supplied by Monopol-Colors.
The customer had requested new color samples during the week cycle - only the 15th or 16th sample could satisfy the client. At first, CEO Lionel Schlessinger did not know who was behind the order from the US.
"Upon request from our overseas customer, and under an obligation of absolute discretion, we were told that it was our black tone AC2 that Norman Foster (the architect of the Apple Park) and his team chose for Apple.
It was difficult to keep secrecy: "Actually, it almost tore me with joy," says Lionel Schlessinger.
Bigger than the Pentagon "We delivered a total of 33 tonnes of special lacquer. That is enough for an area that corresponds to roughly 22 football fields. Monopol Colors has repeatedly received orders for prestige projects. But: "Delivering to Sir Norman Foster and Apple is almost like a knighthood for us as an SME."
The Apple Park in Silicon Valley is 260,000 square meters larger than the Pentagon and offers space for 12,000 employees.
